Chainmail Supplements

Sea Battles, Extra Fantasy Rules & the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

These further options on Sea Battles and extra Fantasy rules were written by W. A. Rogers for Lowry’s Guidon #6, 1973 and include an interesting rule for Morgul blades and adds spell limitations.

I haven’t been able to find out any details about W. A. Rogers at all so far.

There was also a later “fantasy variant” battle scenario for Chainmail by Kenneth W. Burke, published in Panzerfaust magazine, issue 64, 1974. This is an utterly bonkers battle scenario of the forces of good versus evil, taking off from the story of the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

It features the army of Hamlin comprised of Merlin, the town mayor wielding a magic sword called Excelsior, elvish bowmen and heavy field guns, amongst other formations, and the forces of the Pied Piper include the Piper himself, as a wizard, Orcs, Trolls, Were-Bears, Giant Bats and one wraith – who is the spirit of the crippled boy in the story.

If the forces of Hamlin win, “all the monsters will become children (as if there’s a difference)” and everyone will live happily ever after again.

Let it not be said that it wasn’t a time for grand experiment in the wargame community.

Would it be possible to enable the 2nd page of the Alternate Chainmail rules to be “embiggenable”? The other pix on this post you can click on and expand them, but not this one, and the preview pic is too low a resolution to be read easily.
